We Interrupt This Blog For A Side Trip

I survived Thunder Mountain... just barely.

It looms over my sister's house, and at 6900 feet is the second tallest mountain in Sedona.
My sister had attempted the climb previously, but vertigo issues forced her back.
This time her boyfriend called his friend Doug, a zen buddist accountant and avid climber to be our guide. He has "done" Thunder Mountain 743 times. This would be his 744th. He's 65 years young.

Half way up?

Squeezing up the chimney. Looks like Santa's got a little belly...

At the top!

It took us two and a half hours to get to the top. It would take another two hours to make it back down.

  1. It was definitely an ambitious undertaking that almost sent us to the undertaker. ;)

I have to say, Britt, you are in fabulous condition to have made it to the top of Thunder Mountain without any previous attempts; PLUS you were here starting out at 5,000 ft. in the dry morning heat of AZ...and it was 104 degrees by the time we started our descent down the mountain!
